Family Guided Tour
Man and Mei accidentally damaged a toy train which was once passed on to them by their grandma. They meet the Magician of Conservation in the Hong Kong Science Museum and the magician restores their damaged train using his superb magic powers. This arouses their interests in the process of conservation. The magician also invites them to join the examination for the entry to the Magic School of Conservation.
In this programme, you will be guided through theatrical play to explore the collection of bronzes, clocks, textiles, ceramics, and hand-painted copies of ancient paintings, listen to the stories hidden in artefacts, and learn the science behind conservation in an enlightening way. If you want to take up the challenge with Man and Mei, please come and join this guided tour!

Accessible Guided Tour cum Workshop
To make our exhibition accessible to people with disabilities and special needs, the Hong Kong Science Museum and Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong will join hands to provide a series of specially designed accessible guided tours cum workshops. The guided tours will be led by experienced docents to introduce the procedures and significance of artefact conservation. Participants will understand the methods of artefact conservation and the working principle of different analytical instruments. The workshops will involve hands-on activities adapted to the needs of the visitors and serve to deepen the viewing experience.

Science Cart
Science cart showcases a number of interesting experiments which invites visitors’ hands-on participation. With the assistance of docents in providing explanations, the public will learn more about the analytical methods of artefact conservation. Some of the experiments include the mixing of colours, assembly of various types of wooden mortise and tenon joints, and the categorisation of conservation materials.

Storytelling on Painting Conservation

Unlocking the Secrets of Your Toy
Have you ever thought about what’s inside your lovely toy car? How can a robot move with batteries? It’s not easy to unlock these secrets unless you open them up with tools, but sometimes that may bring damages.
In this programme, our professional conservators will make use of computed radiography to help you reveal the internal structure of your toy and the secrets behind it.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Transport Subsidy Scheme – “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Unlocking the Secrets – The Science of Conservation at The Palace Museum” Exhibition Transport Subsidy Scheme for Schools and Non-profit-making Organisations
To encourage visits to “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Unlocking the Secrets – The Science of Conservation at The Palace Museum” Exhibition, free coach services will be provided to groups who have successfully applied for school visit or waiver of admission charges for registered non-profit-making organisations to the exhibition. An application form for free coach services will be sent to successful applicants together with the School Visit Admission Letter or Confirmation Letter for Waiver of Admission Charges. The quota for free coach services is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Conservator Apprenticeship (Cancelled)
“Conservator Apprenticeship” programme provides an invaluable opportunity for secondary school students to understand the importance of science in the conservation of our historical and cultural artefacts. The programme consists of a series of activities, including lecture, conservation laboratory tour, meeting with conservation experts from The Palace Museum, and a three-day practical session to try conserving their own objects under the guidance of our professional conservators. The highlights during the programme and conserved objects will be showcased in a Virtual Exhibition. A certificate will be issued to the participant upon completion of the programme.
