About Us

The Science Promotion Unit (SPU) of the Hong Kong Science Museum is all about curiosity, creativity, playfulness and collaboration. We are dedicated to exploring the wonders of science in everyday life with everyone, making it more relatable, engaging and accessible.
Through our social media platforms, we regularly publish "QK POST" (QK stands for "Quest for Knowledge"). These posts offer a light-hearted and engaging take on everyday science topics, breaking down the principles behind common phenomena and inspiring everyone to see the world through a scientific lens. In addition, we organise a range of engaging programmes, including "QK Branded Programmes", "QK Crossover Programmes" and "SPU Programmes", bringing interactive, innovative and inspiring science experiences right into the community.

French Science Festival: Tasty Science
The French Science Festival is a major annual French scientific culture event held in France and around the world. It aims to promote science and invite the general public to discuss scientific subjects. To tie in with this year's theme, "Tasty Science", the Science Promotion Unit of Hong Kong Science Museum and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau will collaborate and roll out a series of feature programmes at the Hong Kong Science Museum between October 1 and 28, including the "Food (R)Evolutions" exhibition, an inaugural conference – "Gastronomy: First and Foremost a Science?" and a film screening of "Cuisine and Science: A Journey Through the World of the Senses".
"QK Kitchen" School Outreach Programme 2026–27
Organised by the Science Promotion Unit, the "QK Kitchen" School Outreach Programme brings food science into schools through workshops and mobile exhibitions. This academic year's programme focuses on jam-making, introducing the properties of ingredients and the related scientific principles. It transforms textbook knowledge into an observable, practical and tasty learning experience. Through hands-on jam making, students will explore the connection between science and everyday life, discover the joy of science and develop a spirit of inquiry and exploration.
The Science Walk of Fame
Where do the diverse scientific knowledge and technology we know today actually come from? And who were the curious minds behind these monumental breakthroughs? To mark the 35th anniversary of the Hong Kong Science Museum, we have transformed the footbridge outside the museum into a corridor through time, paying tribute to 35 scientific pioneers who changed the world. Thanks to their relentless pursuit of knowledge, our world has been shaped into what it is today.
QK POST Roadshow – Party Science Trivia
Birthday parties are far more than just meaningful occasions for celebrating growth and sharing joy. They are also the perfect gateway to exploring science and uncovering cultural traditions. From the balloons that create a festive atmosphere and the bubbly chill of carbonated drinks, to cakes that emerge soft and fluffy from the oven, these familiar party elements are all rooted in fascinating scientific principles. Hong Kong also preserves a wealth of intangible cultural heritage related to celebrating birthdays and welcoming new life. Examples include the lantern lighting ritual and the tradition of preparing pork knuckles with ginger and vinegar for postpartum confinement. By exploring these traditional customs alongside modern party elements, we can discover the shared scientific knowledge behind them.
