2000 | The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is set up to replace the Urban Council and the Regional Council to oversee the operation of the Hong Kong Science Museum and all the government museums, taking the development of Hong Kong's museums into a new era. |
We pledge to provide at least 500 exhibits in the Museum at all times, of which 70% are interactive exhibits (350 exhibits). We will keep at least 90% of interactive exhibits (315 exhibits) in working order.

Museum expert advisers are appointed by the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services for a period of two years to provide professional advice to the museums of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department on matters pertaining in the promotion of art, history, science and film, in particular the acquisition of collection items.
