"Glorious Voyage: Splendid Achievements of the People's Republic of China in Its 75 Years" Exhibition Series
"Glorious Voyage: Splendid Achievements of the People's Republic of China in Its 75 Years" Exhibition Series introduces the comprehensive development of contemporary China over the past 75 years. The series comprises three exhibitions: Leapfrog Development, Scientific Breakthroughs and Era of Intelligence, with the Scientific Breakthroughs and Era of Intelligence being showcased at the Hong Kong Science Museum. These two exhibitions highlight China's outstanding achievements in science and technology, illustrating the great journey of the Chinese nation from rising up, becoming prosperous, to growing strong, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Scientific Breakthroughs
Over the splendid 75 years since the establishment of new China, the nation's technological endeavours have leaped from non-existence to global prominence. The exhibition showcases the patriotic spirit and steadfast beliefs of Chinese scientists, while emphasising the brilliant accomplishments and key technological breakthroughs of the new China.
This exhibition focuses on three main themes: The Lifeblood of the People's Republic of China commemorates the 65th anniversary of the discovery of the Daqing Oil Field, showcasing the extraordinary contributions of geologists, oil scientists and workers to the development of China's oil industry and significant achievements in the energy sector; Silent Thunder introduces the remarkable achievements of the pioneers of the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" programme and our country's proud accomplishments in nuclear and aerospace technologies; A Chip-driven Patriotic Heart focuses on the breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, demonstrating China's progress in fields such as AI and semiconductors towards achieving technological self-reliance and strength.
Selected Images
Daqing Oil Field is the largest oil field in China, which sets the pace for China's terrestrial shale oil exploration and development.
The Shenditake-1 Well, a scientific exploration well in the Tarim Basin, is the second deepest onshore well globally and the deepest in Asia.
"Two Bombs, One Satellite" refers to nuclear bombs, missiles and artificial satellites, which are important achievements in the history of new China.
Scientists engage in an academic democratic discussion to push the boundaries of atomic bomb theory.
High-purity monocrystalline silicon ingots are produced by repeatedly refining materials such as sand and quartz, then shaping or pulling them in a furnace.
A lithography machine is a piece of precision equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing, crucial for accurately transferring the designed circuit pattern onto the silicon wafer.
Selected Exhibits
Understanding Core Samples: Using computer tomography scanning technology to analyse the properties of rocks provides detailed information on their structure and composition, aiding in a profound understanding of their physical and chemical properties.
Scenery of a 10,000-Metre Journey: Travel through the Shenditake-1 Well from the surface to 10,000 metres deep, exploring the underground scenery and learning about the related knowledge and technology of oil drilling.
Big Bang in the East: Within an immersive space, explore significant historical events such as the launch of Dongfeng-1 missile, atomic bomb detonation, hydrogen bomb detonation, and the launch of the Dongfanghong-1 through multimedia presentation.
Blocking Radiation: Turn the wheel and combine different materials such as air, paper, wood and concrete. Then observe whether α rays, β rays and γ rays are blocked by these materials.
Mystery of Transistors: See how the circuit behaves differently with and without transistors. Try connecting the circuit on a metal piece with both hands to understand how transistors work and how our bodies conduct electricity.
See Your Emotion: Using brain electrical signals collected from the user's frontal lobe, the opening degree of a lotus flower is altered to demonstrate their level of focus and relaxation.
Era of Intelligence
In recent years, the rapid development of AI has ushered in an array of innovative applications, seamlessly integrating into our daily lives and profoundly transforming our work and lifestyle, from smart assistants to autonomous driving technologies. To deepen public understanding of this disruptive technology, the exhibition focuses on AI, offering a range of interactive experiences.
The exhibition not only traces the evolution and daily applications of AI but also includes advanced medical large language models, showcasing AI's potential in the health and life sciences sector. Moreover, it highlights the integration of AI with Chinese culture, inviting visitors to engage with AI in chess games and appreciate AI-generated artworks in diverse styles to explore the intersection of technology and art. A special feature is the exhibition area themed around the renowned Chinese science fiction novel The Three-Body Problem, with innovative mixed-reality (MR) technology, providing visitors with a unique cultural experience.
Selected Exhibits
Towards Autonomous Driving: Experience a real-world test of autonomous driving and learn different levels of driving automation.
Master Guess: By learning from the hand gestures data for "paper", "scissors" and "stone" provided by the visitors, the AI recognises the gestures and plays paper-scissors-stone with the visitors.
Smart Oil Painting: The exhibit not only changes the style of paintings through deep learning but also uses robotic automation technology to draw the artworks with brushes and ink.
Flexible Robot for Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery: Introduce how AI integrates with surgical robotics technology, allowing surgeons to use surgical tools more safely and accurately when performing brain surgery.
Gravitational Battlefield: An interactive exhibit based on Liu Cixin's science fiction novel
The Three-Body Problem, blending AI and MR technologies for an immersive experience, enabling participants to partake in interstellar pursuits as spaceship crew members.
Blueprints of AI: By connecting the history of AI, technological domains, significant algorithms and their applications through the River of Artificial Intelligence, the map showcases the grand development of AI.
The exhibition series is one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Promotion Series. The LCSD has all along promoted Chinese history and culture through organising an array of programmes and activities to enable the public learn more about broad and profound Chinese culture.
