18 April 1991 marked the grand opening of the Hong Kong Science Museum. This year, the museum joyfully celebrates its 35th anniversary. With our brand-new anniversary logo and a series of exciting activities, we invite you to immerse yourself in the infinite world of science and experience the boundless fun of science exploration!
Brand New 35th Anniversary Logo Embodies the Core Spirit of the Museum

35-Year Scientific Journey: Exciting Activities Rolling Out
(1) Energy Machine 35th Anniversary Special Enhanced Edition
Standing 22 metres tall, the Energy Machine runs through four floors of exhibition halls at the Hong Kong Science Museum. Since the museum's opening, it has remained the most iconic giant installation on display. To celebrate the 35th anniversary, we have partnered with the School of Innovation of The University of Hong Kong to create luminous orbs in orange, blue, green, and purple. The orbs roll and race along the 1.6‑kilometre track, embarking on a spectacular and dazzling "Energy x Light" journey!

(2) Hong Kong Science Museum 35th Anniversary Exhibition
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Hong Kong Science Museum, we have specially developed a commemorative exhibition themed "Enjoy Science, Infinite Fun", inviting visitors to step into a time tunnel and revisit this inspiring and joyful scientific journey. The exhibition traces the museum's developmental milestones, showcasing classic exhibitions and activities from past years, displaying the museum's first robot and unveiling the inner workings of the iconic centrepiece "Energy Machine". There will also be interviews with special guest sharing their precious memories intertwined with the museum, allowing visitors to experience the charm of science from diverse perspectives. Additionally, an AI interactive photo booth will be set up, blending innovative technology with playful experiences to capture your joyful moments of encountering science.

(3) MOUTAINS, WATERS AND ROCKS - Shenzhen and Hong Kong Joint Exhibition on Nature and Science Popularisation
In response to Earth Day on 22 April, the Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau of Shenzhen and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the HKSAR collaboratively presented, and the Shenzhen Dapeng Peninsula National Geological Natural Park, the Hong Kong Geopark, and the Hong Kong Science Museum jointly organised the "Shenzhen and Hong Kong Joint Exhibition on Nature and Science Popularisation". The exhibition starts from the shared geological and ecological evolutionary histories of the two neighbouring cities, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, showcasing their collaborative achievements and future vision in ecological civilisation development and science popularisation. It focuses on the precious geological heritage of the Dapeng Peninsula National Geopark and the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, exploring topics such as ecological resources, nature conservation, environmental protection, and the planning and development of livable cities. Featuring an array of specimens and models, the exhibition invites visitors to gain a deeper appreciation of the natural treasures shared by Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

(4) Wildlife Photographer of the Year
The exhibition showcases the award-winning photographs from photographers around the world in the 61st Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, organised by the Natural History Museum, London. Through breathtaking imagery and the compelling stories behind each subject, the exhibition reveals the extraordinary beauty of the natural world while inviting visitors to reflect on the intricate and fragile relationship between humanity and nature.

(5) SciPOP Science Demonstration Contest and Young Scientists Study Tour 2026
The SciPOP Science Demonstration Contest is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Education Bureau. It aims to encourage secondary school students to pursue science knowledge while improving their science communication skills and creative thinking. In addition, the public can gain insights into scientific concepts from engaging perspectives, contributing to the goal of popularising science. The theme for this year is "Artificial intelligence". Winning teams will have the opportunity to join the Young Scientists Study Tour 2026 to visit enterprises and institutes and meet the experts working in the fields of AI and advanced technology.
