Laboratory Programme for Seniors (for registered non-profit making organisations in Hong Kong only)
To let senior citizens experience the joys of science experiments and recognise how fun and simple learning about science can be, the Hong Kong Science Museum warmly welcomes organisations that provide services to senior citizens (must be a registered non-profit-making organisation in Hong Kong) to apply for the "Laboratory Programme for Seniors". Organisations may choose one of the following topics for the laboratory class:
The Laboratory of Oil King
Petroleum is very important to the modern society, it is a valuable resource in our daily lives. Before we can use the petroleum that is deep in the ground, what should we do with it? What kind of everyday objects are made from petroleum? In this laboratory class, seniors can engage in hands-on experiments, understanding the formation, exploration and use of petroleum as well as the contribution of petroleum to the modern society. Through these experiments, seniors can gain intriguing scientific knowledge about petroleum.
Fossil Adventure
How did the remains of ancient organisms from millions of years ago become fossilised? How do palaeontologists determine the age of fossils? What is the relationship between ancient organisms and modern animals? In this laboratory class, seniors can engage in hands-on experiments, such as observing fossils, understanding their formation conditions, and learning how to determine their ages. Through these experiments, they can gain intriguing palaeontology knowledge.
Each session lasts for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The carefully tailored programme consists of two parts, a laboratory class and a guided tour to the exhibition hall, both led by our experienced docents. We hope that through these programme, our participants will have a fun and meaningful time.
