Magic Lava Lamp
The lava lamp looks magical with its coloured bubbles sinking and rising. It is a model of what actually happens in Earth's mantle, and demonstrates convection currents which are the driving force of plate movement. In this workshop, the audience can make their own lava lamp and learn about the concept of density while enjoying some fizzing good fun!

(Suitable for children aged 4-10 accompanied by a parent)

04-11-2023 (Sat) 2:30 - 3:00 pm
3:30 - 4:00 pm

Earth Shaking Science
Earthquakes is one of the most destructive natural disasters to pose significant threats to humans. How do earthquakes happen? How is the energy released by earthquakes transmitted? Through different hands-on experiments, this workshop allows audiences to understand how plate tectonics causes earthquakes and the ways to prepare for earthquakes.

Multiple Perspectives on Disaster Preparedness
Other than severe weather, Hong Kong has small chance of facing natural disasters, such as large earthquakes. But the chance may be increased when we stay abroad. In this workshop, the audience will know more about typhoon and earthquake, how to cope with them and the importance of disaster preparedness through interactive games. It will enhance their knowledge and skills on the scope of community resilience and reduce the impacts of disasters on everyone.

Jointly organised with Community Resilience Service, Hong Kong Red Cross

Turnado
The increase in sea surface temperatures caused by global warming can lead to more frequent and intense typhoons. While the damage caused by typhoons in Hong kong is well-known, have you ever heard that tornadoes have also occurred in Hong Kong region? Join our workshop for a couple of interesting experiments to learn more about the science of typhoons and tornadoes and their power!
