Decoding Butterfly Habitats
Butterflies play a unique role in nature, especially in their interactions with plants. For scientists, studying butterflies offers fresh insights into ecology, evolution, plant interactions and responses to climate change.
If you want to learn more about these colourful butterflies, don't miss out this activity. Combining a lecture with a nature guided tour, it equips participants with fundamental scientific knowledge and ecological insights about lepidopterans, while fostering care for and conservation awareness of our local natural environment.
A. Lecture
The speaker will introduce the basic science of butterflies and the related research.
Speaker: Prof. HUI Ho Lam (Professor, School of Life Sciences, The Chinese University of Kong Kong)
Venue: Laboratory, G/F, Hong Kong Science Museum
Time: 10:00am – 11:30am
B. Nature Guided Tour
Through a nature guided tour, participants will learn about butterfly ecology and the threats they face, fostering a positive attitude towards conservation and inspiring practical action.
Speaker: Prof. HUI Ho Lam (Professor, School of Life Sciences, The Chinese University of Kong Kong) and interpreter of Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve
Venue: Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve
Time: 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Participants are required to attend both the lecture and the nature guided tour.
Participants are responsible for arranging transportation and lunch.
In the event of inclement weather, the nature guided tour will be replaced with an indoor activity.

Each applicant shall submit one application form only during each activity application period and applicants who submit more than one application form are subject to disqualification.
Successful applicants will receive a confirmation email. Please present the confirmation email at the activity counter on the event day.

During the event, there may be staff on-site taking photographs and videos for educational or promotional purposes. If you do not agree to be photographed or filmed, please inform the museum staff before the event.
Programme arrangements, quota and content are subject to changes without prior notice. In case of disputes, the decision of the Hong Kong Science Museum is final.
