Black lacquer grand throne with gold-painted decorations

Qing dynasty

The foot of this grand throne is missing. During conservation, conservators first need to make reference to similar parts of the throne to make the wooden base of the missing parts. This base were then covered by linen fabric, followed by a lacquer and “ash” layer and then a protective layer. A new lacquer layer were applied to keep the newly repaired part consistent with the original one.
