Partition panels from the Hall of Mental Cultivation

Qing dynasty

The partition panels are used for creating partitions within a room. These poems and paintings were originally installed on the partition panels of the Hall of Mental Cultivation. The most critical step in their conservation was to remove the backing from the painting: the painting facing downward is placed on the table and its backing is carefully removed. Silk patches were then applied to the missing or broken areas and other steps such as colour retouching followed.
