Wall painting of flowers and rockery by Zhou Ben

Qianlong period, Qing dynasty

Multispectral analysis can sometimes be used to analyse the technique used in a painting. Conservators used this analysis on the ink of this painting and found that the shapes of the red petals were first outlined by ink, but it was not the case for the green leaves. A detailed record of the ink strokes was also recorded to facilitate the future conservation work.
