Case Study
Embroidered ceremonial robe for a deity
Qing dynasty
This ceremonial robe was worn by the statue of God Xuanwu installed in the Qinan Hall of the Forbidden City. Due to the prolonged period of hanging, and given its heavy weight, many parts on the robe were damaged. After the conservation work is completed, the robe is laid flat and folded to display. To prevent creases, soft supports are placed as pads along the folds.
