Online Workshop

Children can now join our online science workshop at the comfort of their home. Through making scientific toys and conducting experiments, the programme aims to develop children's interest in science and enhance parent-child bonding.

  "Fun with Plants" Online Workshop

Acid and base are closely related to our daily life. Why do flowers have different colours? Want to try an experiment with plants? Through this online workshop, kids can learn about plant science and understand how pH can affect the colour of plants.

Age: Children aged 6 -12 with parents (Age is calculated as at the date of the programme)
Capacity: 70 families per session (First come, first served basis)

Important Notes for Online Workshop
• Participants will need a PC / tablet / smartphone, and the following equipment:
- Headphone or speakers
- Microphone (used for communicating with instructor)
- Webcam (recommended equipment: may need to show progress of the work to instructor during the workshop)
• No recording of any kind is allowed without permission from the Museum.
• Before you join the online workshop by using Cisco Webex, i) please download the relevant software and check the system requirements (including the operating system and browsers) for PC / tablet / smartphone at:
https://help.webex.com/en-us/nrbgeodb/Join-a-Webex-Meeting
ii) the number of participants is limited to 70 families. Each family can only use the same device to join the workshop.
• To ensure a smooth reception, please make sure that your device is connected to WiFi or has sufficient mobile data with a stable connection.

Materials and tools to be prepared


• A slice of red cabbage
• A cup of hot water
• 5 pieces of transparent cups
• Half piece of lemon
• A tablespoon of vinegar
• A teaspoon of baking soda
• A teaspoon of dish soap
• Scissors
• Tablespoon

(Parents can optionally prepare extra colourless or pale coloured liquids for their children to do acid-base tests.)
