Life prevails in almost every possible niche on Earth, from luxuriant forests to vast deserts to volcanic crevices in deep seas. The world is beautiful because of life.

China boasts a vast area with diverse landforms, complex river networks, numerous lakes and extreme climate regimes. It has provided favourable natural conditions for the formation and development of a variety of biological and ecological systems, making it one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world. There are more than 30,000 species of higher plants and over 2,700 species of terrestrial vertebrates. The vertebrates, which account for about 10% of the total number in the world, include 325 species of amphibians, 412 species of reptiles, 1,387 species of birds and 607 species of mammals. As for fish, about 1,000 freshwater species and 3,000 marine species are recorded, which accounts for about 10% of the world population of fish.

"Biodiversity in China - An Exhibition on China's Wildlife Specimens" invites you to explore the rich animal and plant resources in China. It is hoped that the exhibition will enable visitors to better appreciate the interactions between man, wildlife and nature, and understand the importance of conservation of wildlife habitats.
